ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Four different Blue Tigers scored goals as the Lincoln men's soccer team beat Harris Stowe, 4-1, on Friday night (Sept. 12). The victory improves the Blue Tigers to 2-0 on the season.
The first goal of the evening came in the 18th minute when
Santiago Brisco found the back of the net on a breakaway. At the 34:01 mark, Harris Stowe (2-3-2) tied the game, but Brisco helped the Blue Tigers quickly regain the lead, this time with an assist. Brisco passed to Watkins, who scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 34:38 mark, exactly 37 game seconds after the Hornets had scored the equalizer.
The 2-1 score held at the half, but Lincoln wasted no time in cushioning its lead. Just under five minutes into the second half,
Hadri Lopez scored his second goal of the young season off a pass from
Adam Benrahou. In the 54th minute,
Jaheem Johnson scored unassisted to push the Lincoln advantage to 4-1.
Lincoln finished with a 16-9 advantage in total shots.
Antwone Gooden made two saves and kept the Hornets off the scoreboard while
Ewen Persehaie made a save as LU's starter. Brisco led the Blue Tigers with three shot attempts while Lopez,
Christopher Hull and
Fabio Drigo each had two shots.
Junior Grizzelle accounted for another shot on goal and
Tedane Williams,
Joseph Lozano,
Jorge Arevalo and
Nkouka Loubassou each tallied one shot.
The Blue Tigers will try to improve to 3-0 on Sunday (Sept. 14) as Lincoln hosts MIssouri S&T, its first GLVC opponent of the season, at Dwight T. Reed Stadium at 2:30 p.m. CDT.
