KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team tallied 12 hits, but dropped both games of a double-header against Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 26). The Hawks won the first game, 7-4, and took the second game, 1-0.
Lincoln scored the first run of the day in the second inning of the opener, which
Jamilyn Bagby led off with a double.
Mackenzie Graham later drover her in with a sacrifice fly. In the third inning,
Lindsey Brandt hit a lead-off double, moved to second on a bunt by
Gabby Newman and scored on a single from
Abbi Conrad. That gave the Blue Tigers a 2-0 advantage, but Rockhurst cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third by scoring on a throwing error.
The Blue Tigers went back to work in the top of the fourth, which started with a lead-off homer by Bagby. Lincoln later increased its advantage to 4-1 when
Torri Hinnah reached the plate on a wild pitch. Hinnah was issued a walk and took advantage of a wild pitch and a passed ball to make her way to third.
That ended up being the final score of the day for LU, and Rockhurst took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a grand slam. The Blue Tigers managed to advance runners to third in each of the next two innings, but ended up stranding seven on the base path.
Graham and
Vanessa Cardenas also had hits in the opener and
Abby Pulliam struck out four in the circle. Bagby led the LU defense with four putouts while Cardenas and Hinnah each had three. Conrad posted five assists.
In the second game, an RBI single in the bottom of the first produced the only score of the contest. Lincoln had a chance to tie the game in the fifth, as
Ann-Marie Simpson reached third on a single by
Kierra O'Rourke, but she ended up getting thrown out at the plate when she tried to score on a wild pitch. Lincoln ended up having nine players left on base.
Conrad led the LU offense with two hits while Hinnah, Graham and Brandt each had one.
Jaedin Blankenship struck out three in a complete-game effort in the circle. Hinnah posted eight putouts while Simpson and O'Rourke were each credited with three. Graham led Lincoln with three assists.
