JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln men's basketball team is headed back to the NCAA Division II Championship tournament for the first time since 1981. The Blue Tigers, champions of the GLVC tournament, will play Lake Superior State in the first round of the Midwest Regional.
The Blue Tigers and the Lakers will play one another for the first time ever on Saturday, March 15 at 1:00 p.m. CDT in Springfield, Ill. on the campus of Illinois-Springfield. Lincoln earned the No. 7 seed in the regional while the Lakers are seeded No. 2. The winner will advance to play the victor of the game between No. 3 Michigan Tech and No. 6 Northern Michigan on Sunday, March 16 at 6:00 p.m. CDT.
This will be the 13th time that Lincoln will play in the NCAA Division II tournament. In addition to play in 1981, the Blue Tigers also advance to the national championship tourney in 1959, 1960, 1961, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1972, 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1978. Lincoln is 12-13 all-time in NCAA Championship contests.
