JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Rockhurst and the Lincoln baseball team met at Vivion Field for a double-header on Sunday (March 2) with the Hawks beating the Blue Tigers in both games. RU took the opener, 23-4, and won the second game, 18-1.
In the first game, Rockhurst (8-2) scored in the opening inning on a groundout, then broke the game open in the second frame with five runs on four hits. Lincoln (2-10) got on board in the bottom of the second when
Ty Ollison scored on an error. Ollison later hit a two-run homer in the sixth that also plated
Blythe Blakey. LU's other run in the first game came in the seventh, as
Brody Johns reached home on a base hit by
Ryan Lepper.
Johns, Lepper and Ollison each had two hits while Andy Sreboski IV,
Isaiah Figueroa and
Jayden Little had one apiece.
Carter Otto struck out two Hawk batters and Lepper fanned one. Little and
Drake Davidson tied for the team-lead with five putouts apiece and Johns and Ollison each recorded three. Figueroa and Lepper each had two assists.
In the second game, Rockhurst scored three runs in the first inning and at least one run in each of the following six frames. Lincoln's run came in the bottom of the third when Sreboski scored on a double by Little, who had two hits in the contest. Sreboski and
Felix Marquez each had one hit. On the mound,
Jacob Zahner struck out three Rockhurst batters while
Dave Watkins III,
Jacob Claborn and Ollison each fanned one.
Jared Fulghem posted six putouts,
Miguel Padron recorded five and Little finished with three. Lepper again had two assists.
Lincoln will play a four-game series at Parkside next weekend, with the first game in Kenosha, Wis. occurring on Friday (March 7) at 6:00 p.m. CST. On Saturday (March 8), LU plays a double-header at 12:00 p.m. CST, while, on Sunday (March 9), the two teams wrap up the series at 12:00 p.m. CST.
