JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln baseball team had a perfect game going through the first three innings, but big plays in the fourth and sixth frames helped William Woods beat the Blue Tigers, 10-2, on Sunday (Feb. 9).
For the third-straight game, Lincoln (1-6) scored first, as
Miguel Padron reached the plate on a ground out by
Jayden Little in the bottom of the opening inning. Padron stole second base, then took third on a throwing error by WWU's catcher. Little was also responsible for Lincoln's second run, as another throwing error allowed him to round third base in the fourth before inadvertently getting tripped up by the baseman. The umpire ruled interference, allowing Little's run to count.
Ed Noy struck out five batters and retired each of the first nine Owls he faced. William Woods (5-3) found its offense in the fourth inning, however, as a lead-off walk, a pair of Lincoln errors and two hits allowed WWU to push five runs across the plate. After the Blue Tigers pulled to within 5-2, WWU scored two more runs in the sixth inning on a base hit into centerfield. The Owls went on to score three more times in the remaining three innings while keeping Lincoln's bats in check.
The Blue Tigers finished with five hits, including one apiece by Little,
Jacob Schulte,
Ryan Lepper and
Brody Johns.
Jacob Claborn and
Ty Ollison each struck out Owl batters and Andy Sreboski IV led LU with two assists. Little and Schulte each recorded seven putouts while
Jared Fulghem was next with six.
Lincoln continues its homestand on Friday (Feb. 14) when the Blue Tigers host Harris-Stowe in a 12:00 p.m. CST double-header.
