JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Northwestern Iowa scored four runs in the sixth inning to pull away from the Lincoln baseball team as the Blue Tigers fell, 9-0, at Capital City High School on Monday night (Feb. 24).
The Blue Tigers were held to five hits, two of which were by
Felix Marquez, while Northwestern Iowa (2-2) had 10 hits on the night. The second batter of the game hit a solo homerun, but LU's starting pitcher,
Jacob Zahner, kept the Raider lead at 1-0 through five innings of play. Zahner struck out five batters while
Drake Davidson and
Carter Otto each had a pair of strikeouts.
Marquez and
Ryan Lepper each hit singles in the third inning, but Lincoln (1-7) was unable to advance a runner past second base during the contest, thanks in part to a pair of double plays.
Jayden Little and
Isaiah Figueroa also had hits for the Blue Tigers.
Ty Ollison led Lincoln with nine putouts while Little and Figueroa were each responsible for six. Andy Sreboski IV turned a team-high three assists.
Lincoln will be back at Capital City High School on Tuesday (Feb. 25) to play a double-header against Northwestern Iowa beginning at 12:00 p.m. CST.
