JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -
Hanne Nybo scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, but Illinois-Springfield pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Lincoln women's basketball team, 53-44, on Saturday (Feb. 1).
Lincoln (1-17, 0-12 GLVC) shot .600 from the field in the first quarter and .667 from three-point range to remain within 15-14 of the Prairie Stars through the first 10 minutes of play. The second quarter was just as closely contested, with Illinois-Springfield tallying 11 points to LU's 10, making the score 26-24 at the half. The Blue Tigers were held to .364 shooting overall in the third quarter, but were only outscored by two points, 13-11, despite UIS shooting .500 from the floor.
The fourth quarter proved to be the difference maker, as UIS, which shot .400 for the contest, shot .500 once again from the field en route to scoring 14 points. The Blue Tigers were held to .362 shooting overall and .286 from three-point range, but Lincoln forced Illinois-Springfield into 16 turnovers, resulting in 10 points.
Nybo had a steal while
Imani Harris finished with 10 points, four rebounds, two takeaways and an assist.
Kaleah Toran dished three assists and chipped in six points while securing five rebounds and forcing a pair of steals.
Isis Sanders also scored six points to go with two assists, three boards and a steal.
Emma Wolken and
Chase Giddings each tallied three points, with Wolken also notching a steal, and
Cassidy Gladney provided an assist while
Kennedy Jones pulled down three rebounds.
Lincoln will be on the road for its next two games, beginning on Thursday (Feb. 6) with a visit to Fayette, Iowa to play Upper Iowa.
