JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team scored 20 points in the third quarter to break open the game and beat Haskell Indian Nations, 66-48, in LU's home opener on Monday evening (Nov. 17).
Hallie Williamson led the Blue Tigers with 17 points and collected five rebounds to go with an assist.
Chase Giddings came close to a double-double, finishing with nine points, nine boards, three assists and a steal.
Laini Joseph also scored in double figures, ending the night with 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Lincoln (1-2) led from nearly start to finish, shooting .417 from three-point range over the first 10 minutes to finish the opening quarter with a 17-9 advantage. Haskell (4-5) pulled within 31-27 at halftime, but LU shot .429 from the field during the third quarter to pull away. LU, which forced 22 turnovers, held Haskell to just nine points in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory.
Bella Borgos blocked a shot, chipped in eight points and pulled down two rebounds while
Taelyn Smith added eight points, three boards and two steals.
Kennedy Jones led Lincoln in both rebounds (10) and steals (three) and dished two assists while scoring three points.
Kaleah Toran had four points, three boards and two steals while
Kiara Cabrera rounded out the Blue Tigers with two points, a pair of assists, a rebound and a steal.Â
The Blue Tigers travel to St. Louis, Mo. on Thursday (Nov. 20) to play Harris Stowe in a battle of Missouri's HBCUs. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CST.
