Laini Joseph made two big three-pointers to send the game into overtime, but Kentucky Wesleyan managed to eke out a 69-64 win over the Lincoln women's basketball team on Saturday (Nov. 15).
Joseph and
Hallie Williamson each scored 21 points, with Joseph adding seven rebounds and an assist. Williamson, meanwhile, collected six rebounds and block two shots while also dishing an assist.
With 30 seconds remaining in regulation, Kentucky Wesleyan (1-1) hit a layup to take a 58-54 lead. Joseph hit a pull-up three to pull Lincoln (0-2) within one, and the Blue Tigers fouled the Panthers, who made both shots to go back up by three. With two seconds to go, Joseph hit another three, sending the contest into overtime.Â
The Panthers opened the extra frame with a trey, but Joseph made a layup before
Kennedy Jones got the ball back for Lincoln on a steal. Williamson made a jumper, giving the Blue Tigers a one point advantage. Kentucky Wesleyan tied the score at 64 with a free throw, and Lincoln was shut out of the scoreboard the rest of the way. Jones provided three points, six boards, six assists and four steals to the LU cause.
Taelyn Smith had nine points and five boards while
Kiara Cabrera finished with four points, four steals, four rebounds and four assists.
Kaleah Toran made a free throw and
Bella Borgos notched an assist.
Lincoln opens its home slate on Monday (Nov. 17) by hosting Haskell at 5:30 p.m. CST.
