Blue Tigers Continue Unbeaten Season With 3-2 Senior Day Victory

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln men's soccer team finished its home slate unbeaten after defeating Truman State, 3-2, on Senior Day Sunday (Oct. 26).

Lincoln, which entered the weekend ranked No. 21 in the country in the United Soccer Coaches Division II poll, is now 10-0-4 overall and 8-0-4 in GLVC play. In the league standings, the Blue Tigers are in second place and have 28 points, just one fewer than league-leader Rockhurst, the team that Lincoln faces in its regular season finale.

Santiago Brisco gave the Blue Tigers a 1-0 lead at halftime after arching a kick over the keeper's head and into the net in the 33rd minute. Truman State (3-9-2, 2-9-1 GLVC) started the second half hot, tying the match in the 50th minute. In the 54th minute, a foul called against the Blue Tigers gave TSU a penalty shot opportunity, and the Bulldogs converted to take a 2-1 lead.

It did not the Blue Tigers long to respond, however, as Joseph Lozano found the back of the net in the 57th minute off a pass from Christopher Hull to knot the score at 2-2. The final goal of the match came in the 61st minute when Ackeem Mullings passed the ball to a wide-open Kanye Francis, who sent the ball past the keeper for a 3-2 Lincoln lead.

The Blue Tigers finished with a 15-10 advantage in total shots and an 8-5 edge on shots on goal. Vincent Osei made three saves while Brisco led Lincoln in both total shots (five) and shots on the net (three). Demani Gordon ended the afternoon with three shot attempts while Lozano had a pair of shots on goal. Kevon Maitland added two shots, one of which was on goal, and Junior Grizzelle had Lincoln's other shot on the net. Adam Benrahou also had a shot attempt for the Blue Tigers.

Prior to the match, the Blue Tigers held a ceremony honoring LU's four graduating players: Benrahou, Rajiv Gavin, Rajae Lawrence and Maitland.

Lincoln closes the regular season with a pair of road contests next weekend, beginning on Friday (Oct. 31) with a trip to Liberty, Mo. to play William Jewell. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CDT.
