Lincoln Ties William Jewell, Remains Unbeaten

LIBERTY, Mo. - In one of the higher scoring matches of the season, the Lincoln men's soccer team scored in the 79th minute to secure a 4-4 tie against William Jewell on Friday night (Oct. 31).

The draw keeps the Blue Tigers undefeated, as Lincoln, currently ranked No. 15 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II poll, is now 10-0-5 overall and 8-0-5 in GLVC play. Still the GLVC's only unbeaten team, Lincoln is in second place in the league standings with 29 points heading into the final contest of the regular season. The Blue Tigers are three points behind Rockhurst, and the winner of that match will determine the GLVC's regular season champion.

Kanye Francis scored twice in the opening half, including during the 14th minute to give LU a 1-0 lead. William Jewell (2-10-4, 1-8-4 GLVC) scored the next three goals before Francis made it a 3-2 contest at the half with his second score in the 41st minute.

A pass from Adam Benrahou to Christopher Hull led to Lincoln tying the match in the 51st minute. WJC briefly regained the lead with a goal with 17 minutes remaining, but Lincoln tied the game at four in the 79th minute when Adam Griffiths found the back of the net on an unassisted goal.

The Blue Tigers finished with a 17-10 advantage in total shots and a 12-8 edge in shots on goal. LU also had a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks. Vincent Osei made four saves while Francis and Junior Grizzelle each had three shots on goal.

Benrahou, Joseph Lozano, Akwasi Agyepong and Nkouka Loubassou each had one shot on goal. Griffiths and Hull each had two shot attempts while Kevon Maitland, Santiago Brisco and Jorge Arvalo each tallied one.

Lincoln closes the regular season on Sunday (Nov. 2) in Kansas City, Mo., with the Blue Tigers playing Rockhurst with the top seed in the GLVC tournament on the line. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CDT.
