#20 Blue Tigers Hold Off Peacocks, 3-2

FAYETTE, Mo. - Kevon Maitland scored a pair of goals, including the one that proved to be the game-winner in the 75th minute, and the Lincoln men's soccer team held off a late comeback attempt by Upper Iowa to beat the Peacocks, 3-2, on Sunday (Oct. 19).

Lincoln, which entered the weekend ranked No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II poll, improves to 8-0-4 overall and 6-0-4 in GLVC play. The Blue Tigers, who are the only GLVC team without a loss in 2025, moved into second in the conference standings with four matches left in the regular season. Upper Iowa, meanwhile, is now 3-8-2 on the season and 2-6-2 in league play.

Maitland's first goal came in the 19th minute of play off an assist from Ackeem Mullings. In the 26th minute, Jorge Arevalo found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Makwe Nkoana, giving the Blue Tigers a 2-0 lead at half time.

Upper Iowa began its rally attempt early in the second half, scoring in the 56th minute to cut the LU lead in half. Maitland gave the Blue Tigers back a two-goal advantage at the 74:52 mark, taking a pass from Nkouka Loubassou and kicking the goal past the UIU keeper for a 3-1 Lincoln lead. The Blue Tigers held that advantage until the final minute of the match, as the Peacocks scored with 30 seconds remaining to pull back within one.

Maitland finished with three shots on goal and Santiago Brisco had one. Mullings and Christopher Hull also attempted shots for the Blue Tigers. In goal, Vincent Osei made five saves.

Lincoln will be back in Jefferson City, Mo. on Friday (Oct. 24) to host Quincy at Dwight T. Reed Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CDT.
