JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln men's soccer team extended its undefeated start to the 2025 season on Sunday (Oct. 12) by beating Indianapolis, 3-0.
Lincoln, which entered the weekend ranked No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II poll, improves to 7-0-3 overall and 5-0-3 in the GLVC. Indianapolis, which received votes in this week's USC Division II poll, falls to 7-2-3 on the season and 5-2-2 against GLVC competition.
Both teams played extremely well defensive for most of the first half, with LU and Indianapolis combining for 11 shots before the Blue Tigers broke through in the 40th minute.
Christopher Hull sent the ball into the left corner of the net after a pass from
Adam Griffiths to make the score 1-0 at halftime.Â
In the second half, the Blue Tiger defense came up big, holding the Greyhounds to just one shot attempt through 45 minutes. Lincoln, which had seven shots in each half, finished with a 14-9 advantage in total shooting and a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Meanwhile, in the 47th minute,
Kanye Francis scored off a pass by
Nkouka Loubassou to put the Blue Tigers ahead by two. Hull later recorded his second goal of the afternoon in the 75th minute when he headed the ball past the keeper after a pass from
Kevon Maitland.
Vincent Osei made three saves and preserved the shutout for 84:41 before
Antwone Gooden came in to finish the victory in the net. Maitland had three shots, including two on the goal, and
Hadri Lopez and
Santiago Brisco both ended the day with two total shots and one shot on goal.
Mo Yanis,
Rajae Lawrence and
Hadri Lopez also had shots on the goal while Loubassour finished with two shot attempts.
Lincoln is on the road for its next two contests, beginning on Friday (Oct. 17) with a 7:30 p.m. CDT match in Romeoville, Ill. against Lewis.
