JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - For the third time in the past four matches, the Lincoln men's soccer team finished with a 1-1 tie. The Blue Tigers, ranked No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II poll, played to a draw with Illinois-Springfield on Friday night (Oct. 10).
Neither team was able to get on the board in the first half, but Lincoln (6-0-3, 4-0-3 GLVC) struck first in the second. Keeper
Vincent Osei booted the ball down towards the opposite net. Taking the pass was
Santiago Brisco, who turned past a defender and sent the ball into the back right corner of the net for a 1-0 Lincoln lead in the 60th minute. The Blue Tigers finished with a 17-9 advantage in total shots as well as a 9-5 edge in shots on goal.
Illinois-Springfield (2-6-3, 1-5-2 GLVC) responded quickly, as a Prairie Star player lost control of the ball near the Lincoln goal. The ball took a bounce off an LU defender that fortunately landed in front of another UIS player, who scored the game-tying goal in the 63rd minute.
Osei, who was credited with the assist on Brisco's goal, made four saves on the evening. Brisco had a team-high five shot attempts, three of which were on goal, and
Nkouka Loubassou finished the match with two shots on the net.
Rajae Lawrence had a shot on goal and two shot attempts overall while
Hadri Lopez and
Evan Butler each also had shots on goal.
Christopher Hull and
Jorge Arevalo each recorded two shots, with one of Hull's being on goal, and
Junior Grizzelle tried LU's other shot of the night.
Lincoln is back at Dwight T. Reed Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 12) to host Indianapolis at 2:30 p.m. CDT.
