JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - It was a close game for nearly the entire 40 minutes, but Indianapolis outlasted the Lincoln men's basketball team, 84-80, on Thursday night (Jan. 30).
The Blue Tigers led by four early, but the Greyhounds raced back to take a 43-37 lead into halftime. Both teams made 14 total field goals in the first 20 minutes and both teams made five shots from three-point range, but Indianapolis (12-8, 6-6 GLVC) made 10 free throws compared to four by Lincoln (13-6, 5-6 GLVC). That ended up being the difference in the game, as Lincoln scored two more points than the Greyhounds in the second half, but Indianapolis was able to capitalize on free throw opportunities by making 24 shots at the line. LU, meanwhile, made just nine of its 15 tries from the charity stripe.
Indianapolis held a 41-33 advantage in rebounding, but both teams shot 36-percent from three-point range and LU held the advantage in shooting percentage, .469 to .441. The Blue Tigers also forced 12 turnovers, resulting in 12 points, and LU's bench out-scored the Greyhound reserves, 34-25. Lincoln finished the night with eight steals and four blocks while Indianapolis ended the evening with four takeaways and two rejections.
Tyler Chapman led LU with 23 points on 9-for-14 shooting, with five of those buckets counting for three points. Chapman also dished five assists and had three steals, both team highs, to go with three rebounds.
Mikey West also surpassed the 20-point plateau, finishing with 21 points, five boards, two steals and an assist.
Malcolm Davis, meanwhile, ended the night with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Max Ekono led LU with eight rebounds and had five points and a steal while
Andreas Fuller had a steal, six points and two rebounds.
Franck Yetna blocked three shots and chipped in six points to go with two boards, an assist and a steal.
Matthieu Biembongo had Lincoln's other block and tallied five points and two rebounds.
Tyson Robinson scored two points and secured a rebound to close out the Blue Tigers.
Lincoln remains in Jefferson City to host Illinois-Springfield on Saturday (Feb. 1) at 3:00 p.m. CST.
