QUINCY, Ill. - Four members of the Lincoln men's basketball team scored in double figures as the Blue Tigers opened 2025 with a 70-69 road win over Quincy on Friday night (Jan. 3).
Mikey West led all scorers with 28 points, dished eight assists and grabbed five rebounds while also blocking a shot.
Franck Yetna came one rebound short of a double-double, finishing with 13 points, nine boards, two steals, an assist and a block.
Malcolm Davis provided 14 points, secured eight rebounds and had three assists as well as a pair of steals.
Tyson Robinson, meanwhile, chipped in 11 points while grabbing three rebounds and dishing an assist.
The game was closely contested all evening, with the teams combining for 11 ties and 13 lead changes. The Blue Tigers shot .421 from the field while the Hawks shot .415, and the teams combined for 23 turnovers and 13 steals. LU won the rebounding battle, tallying 37 compared to 30 for QU, and the Blue Tigers scored 13 points on second chance opportunities.
A jumper by West allowed Lincoln (10-3, 2-3 GLVC) to take a 38-34 advantage into halftime, but Quincy (6-6, 1-3 GLVC), which shot .546 from three-point range in the second half, took a 44-43 lead on a trey with 12:32 remaining.
Tyson Robinson answered with a three of his own to give LU back a two-point lead, but the Hawks tied the score back up with a pair of free throws. The long distance shot proved to be critical for both programs, as Lincoln made 14 shots from beyond the arc while Quincy drained 11.
West broke the tie with a triple at the 11:17 mark, Quincy answered with a 5-0 run, and LU tied the game at 51 on a layup by West. Yetna put Lincoln back on top with a three-pointer, and LU remained ahead until the Hawks hits back-to-back threes to go up 61-60 with 4:15 to play.
With just under 90 seconds to play, West hit a three to give Lincoln a 66-65 lead, and a pair of free throws by Davis gave LU a three-point cushion entering the final minute. The lead held until Lincoln was called for a foul with nine ticks left on the clock, sending Quincy to the line. The Hawks made the first shot, but the second ended up going out of bounds, giving the ball back to the Blue Tigers. West drew a foul with five seconds left and hit both shots to put LU on top by four. Quincy drained one more three in the closing seconds, but a successful pass in bounds allowed Lincoln to claim victory.
Matthieu Biembongo and
Isaiah Robinson, who had a steal, each scored two points, with Biembongo also supplying two boards, an assist and a block.
Max Ekono pulled down five rebounds and notched two steals while
Youssouf Timera and
Caleb Wright also represented Lincoln in the win.
Due to forecasts calling for a snowstorm, Lincoln will next play on Monday (Jan. 6), as the Blue Tigers travel to Kirksville, Mo. to take on Truman State at 3:00 p.m. CST.
