Davis Drops 22 as Lincoln Wins Fifth-Straight

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Malcolm Davis made six treys and totaled 22 points to lead the Lincoln men's basketball team to a 65-63 victory over Drury on Thursday (Jan. 9). The win was the fifth in a row for Lincoln, which improved to 11-3 overall and 3-3 in GLVC play.

The Blue Tigers held the Panthers to just 19 points in the first half, but Drury (6-7, 1-5 GLVC) shot .520 from the floor and .500 from three-point range in the second half of a game that wasn't decided until the clock hit zero. The contest featured 10 lead changes and nine ties before Lincoln took a 61-52 advantage on a trey by Davis with two minutes left on the clock. The Panthers mounted a furious comeback, however, beginning by making three-straight free throws after a foul was drawn on a shot beyond the arc.

Lincoln was sent to the line afterwards but made just one of two attempts, and Drury capitalized by making two shots at the line during the ensuing possession to pull within 62-57. Both teams made 16 free throws, but the Panthers shot .941 at the line while the Blue Tigers shot .727. The Blue Tigers enjoyed a 34-27 advantage in rebounding and shot .440 from three-point land, but shot just .396 for the game while Drury, which shot .280 from beyond the arc, ended up shooting .400 for the ballgame.

Two quick steals followed by successful layups allowed the Panthers to cut the Lincoln lead down to one, and LU made just two of its next four free throw opportunities to give the Blue Tigers a 64-61 cushion with 24 ticks left on the clock. DU got back within one on a layup with 10 seconds to play, and the Blue Tigers once again went 1-for-2 at the line to make the score 65-63. That gave Drury one last chance, but a three-point try went wide left of the rim, bounced off the backboard and fell out of bounds as the final seconds ticked off the clock.

Davis had six rebounds, three assists and two steals to go with his team-high 22 points and Franck Yetna added 14 points, three boards, three takeaways and a block. Max Ekono also scored in double figures, providing 10 points, an assist and a team-best seven rebounds. Mikey West, meanwhile, finished the evening with nine points, four assists, two steals and a rebound.

Tyler Chapman also dished four assists and collected five rebounds while tallying six points and two steals. Youssouf Timera also had an assist and Matthieu Biembongo contributed two points, three boards and a steal to the winning cause. Tyson Robinson rounded out the Blue Tigers with two points and a pair of rebounds.

Weather permitting, Lincoln will be back in Jason Gym on Saturday (Jan. 11) to play Southwest Baptist at 3:00 p.m. CST.
