SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -
Ivanna Faria's goal in the 73rd minute of play helped the Lincoln women's soccer team improve to 2-0 on the young season on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 8). Lincoln, which is sponsoring a women's soccer team for the first time in school history, defeated Sioux Falls in the USF Fall Brawl, 1-0.
Lincoln attempted eight shots on goal throughout the match while
Michelle Granja made five saves while playing all 90 minutes in the net to earn the shutout win. Both Lincoln and Sioux Falls (0-2) attempted 11 total shots, though USF had only five in the vicinity of the goal.
LU relied on just two substitutes throughout the match,
Daisy Ayala and
Francesca Tucci-Haack, each of whom had a shot on goal. Faria tried a team-high three shots while
Angela Reynolds attempted two, both of which were on the goal.
Carolina Dos Santos also finished with two shots while
Grace Larson and
Jia Diaz each had one.
The Blue Tigers will play their first-ever home match on Wednesday (Sept. 11) as Lincoln hosts William Woods at Jefferson City High School Soccer Field at 6:00 p.m. CDT.
