JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -
Ivanna Faria scored a pair of second half goals as the Lincoln women's soccer team beat William Woods, 2-1, in their home opener on Wednesday night (Sept. 11). It was the first home match ever for the Lincoln women's soccer program, which improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory.
The two teams played to a scoreless draw at the end of the first half, but William Woods (2-3-3) struck first with a goal in the 48th minute off a corner kick. The Owls maintained the lead until the 57th minute when Faria's shot towards the bottom left of the net allowed Lincoln to even the score.
The game-winner came with just under five minutes remaining as Faria once again found the back of the net. Faria, who had five shots on goal on the evening, has now scored three goals this fall.
Kanon Dehama, the reigning GLVC Defensive Player of the Week, played all 90 minutes in goal and made seven saves.
Jaelyn Drake and
Grace Larson each had a shot on goal while
Angela Reynolds attempted three shots, one of which was on goal.
Carolina Dos Santos, meanwhile, had two shots in the victory.
Lincoln will remain at home to host Harris Stowe in a battle of Missouri's HBCUs on Friday night (Sept. 13). Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CDT.
