SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Lincoln women's soccer team, did not have to wait long to experience its first-ever win. The Blue Tigers, playing the first-ever match in the history of the program, got an early first half goal from
Carolina Dos Santos and played tenacious defense in the second half to beat Minnesota Crookston, 1-0, at the USF Fall Brawl on Friday afternoon (Sept. 6).
Kanon Dehama played all 90 minutes in the net and recorded five saves as the Blue Tigers shut out the Golden Eagles. Lincoln held a dominant advantage in terms of creating offensive opportunities, finishing with 14 shots overall and seven shots on goal compared to seven total shots and only five on goal for Minnesota Crookston.Â
Two of those shots on goal belonged to Dos Santos, who took a pass from
Angela Reynolds and slipped a shot past the opposing keeper to give LU the lead just 3:29 into the contest. Lincoln kept the pressure on defensively, with
Grace Larson attempting a team-high four shots, two of which were on goal. Dos Santos and
Ivanna Faria finished with three shots apiece while
Jia Diaz additionally had two shots on goal.
The Blue Tigers will try to start the season off 2-0 on Sunday (Sept. 8) as Lincoln plays Sioux Falls at 11:00 a.m. CDT.
