ROLLA, Mo. - It was a defensive tussle for most of the afternoon, but a late second half goal allowed Missouri S&T to edge the Lincoln men's soccer team, 1-0, in the GLVC opener for both programs on Sunday (Sept. 15).
Missouri S&T (3-1, 1-0 GLVC) limited Lincoln (1-1-1, 0-1 GLVC) to just one shot in the contest while the Blue Tigers held the Miners to just three shots on goal with
Vincent Osei making two saves.
Kevon Maitland had Lincoln's shot as 19 players spent at least eight minutes on the pitch for the Blue Tigers.
The difference-maker came in the 72nd minute as Missouri S&T's Luke Giesing found the back of the net after a pass by Joao Viera. The Miners finished with a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Lincoln will be back in Jefferson City, Mo. on Friday night (Sept. 20) as the Blue Tigers continue GLVC play by hosting Drury at Jefferson City High School Soccer Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CDT.
