TOPEKA, Kan. - The Lincoln women's basketball team out-scored Washburn in the second half, but the Blue Tiger rally fell short as the Ichabods won, 71-62, on Thursday evening (Feb. 22).
Both teams scored 18 in the opening quarter, but Washburn (12-13, 7-12 MIAA) used an 18-4 run in the second quarter to take control of the game. Lincoln (6-19, 2-17 MIAA) scored 40 points in the second half, at one point closing the gap down to six points, but the Ichabods held off the Blue Tigers.
The Blue Tigers were impressive at the free throw line, making 25 of their 26 attempts, but shot just .309 overall. Defenisvely, however, Lincoln held Washburn to .349 shooting from the floor and .235 from three-point range, and the Ichabods shot just .657 at the free throw line. Washburn finished with a 46-40 advantage in rebounding, with WU scoring eight second-chance points and LU adding nine.
LU had four players score in double figures, led by
Ashlyn Alloway, who doubled up with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Steph Torres tallied 14 points, and Hannah Nybo and
AJ Bradley each chipped in 10, with Nybo also grabbing five rebounds.
Biance Stocks provided five points and six boards while
Miriam Bazylewicz added four points and two rebounds.
Imani Jones finished with two points and two rebounds and
Emma Wolken rounded out the scoring with one point and a board.
Saniya Simmons collected three rebounds and blocked a shot to go with two steals and a pair of assists.
Tatiana Beaumont pulled down three rebounds and dished an assist while
Alyssa McCarty also had a rebound.
Lincoln travels to Emporia, Kan. on Saturday (Feb. 24) to play Emporia State at 1:30 p.m. CST.
