Blue Tiger Rally Falls Short Against Upper Iowa

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team battled all afternoon, but Upper Iowa ended up prevailing, 69-56, in Jason Gym on Saturday (Dec. 7).

Hanne Nybo led LU with 21 points and eight rebounds while dishing two assists. Chase Giddings and Biance Stocks each scored 11 and pulled down three rebounds. Stocks dished two assists and Giddings finished with an assist and a steal.

Upper Iowa (4-3, 2-1 GLVC) led by as many as 20 in the second quarter, but Lincoln (1-6, 0-4 GLVC) fought back with a 13-0 scoring run to pull within 32-25 of the Peacocks. Giddings made a pair of late free throws to keep Lincoln within seven, but Upper Iowa hit a layup in the final minute to take a 38-29 advantage into halftime.

The Peacocks, who shot .456 from the field, .400 from three-point range and .917 at the line, built their lead back up to 16 early in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Tigers refused to go away. Giddings scored five unanswered points and Nybo made a jumper to cap a 7-0 run that brought LU to within 63-54. The rest of the contest was a defensive affair, however, and Upper Iowa managed to notch the victory.

Lincoln forced Upper Iowa into 13 turnovers, resulting in 16 points, and made every free throw it attempted. Ayreona Carter finished fourth among the Blue Tigers in scoring with eight points, two boards and a team-high four assists. Kennedy Jones added two assists and a pair of rebounds. Isis Sanders, meanwhile, finished with two assists, a block and a rebound.

Kaleah Toran drained a three and pulled down a rebound and Emma Wolken grabbed two boards. Kiara Cabrera closed the scoring with two points and a rebound.

Lincoln has a week to prepare for its next contest, as the Blue Tigers close a three-game homestand by hosting Principia on Saturday (Dec. 14) at 1:00 p.m. CST.
