Ayreona Carter led the Lincoln women's basketball team with 19 points, but the Blue Tigers fell to Washburn, 80-55, in their first road game of 2024-25.
Carter shot 7-for-10 from the field and 5-for-7 at the line while also recording two rebounds, a block and a steal.
Hanne Nybo finished second on the scoring list with nine points, six boards, two assists and a steal.Â
LU opened the game strong, as a three-pointer by
Cassidy Gladney launched the Blue Tigers onto a 15-3 run that led to an 18-13 lead over the Ichabods. The Blue Tigers led 21-16 after the first quarter and maintained the advantage until there were just over six minutes remaining in the half, when a pair of free throws gave WU a one-point advantage.
Biance Stocks later connected on a three to give LU back the lead, but WU tied the game before taking a 32-29 lead into the break.
Washburn (3-4) shot .484 from the floor and .429 from three-point range for the contest while holding Lincoln (1-1) to .388 shooting overall. Hot shooting helped the Ichabods out-score the Blue Tigers, 48-26, over the final 20 minutes, including allowing LU to make just one trey in that span. The Blue Tigers forced the Ichabods into 17 turnovers, however, resulting in 17 points for the Blue Tigers.
Chase Giddings scored eight points and dished two assists while Gladney had five points and three rebounds. Stocks, who had two boards and a steal, matched
Isis Sanders, who led Lincoln with three assists, with four points apiece.
Kaleah Toran also had four points as well as two rebounds, and
Lyssa Sportsman rounded out the scoring for LU with two points, two rebounds and a steal.
Kiara Cabrera provided an assist and a steal and
Emma Wolken finished with two assists and a rebound.
Lincoln will continue a four-game road trip on Tuesday night (Nov. 26) by traveling to St. Joseph, Mo. to play Missouri Western at 5:30 p.m. CST.
