JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - All three goals were scored on penalty kicks as the Lincoln men's soccer team fell to Maryville, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 6).
Alberto Di Pierri scored on a penalty kick for Maryville (5-4-1, 5-2-0 GLVC) in the 38th minute of the first half for the only goal through the first 40 minutes of play.
Kevon Maitland connected on a penalty shot in the 55th minute of the second half for the equalizer, but Maryville's Mason Crew answered with a score on a penalty kick just over a minute later, with that goal proving to be the game-winner.
Lincoln (3-3-2, 2-3-1 GLVC) and Maryville each had 10 shots, with LU holding a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Three of those shots on goal belonged to Maitland, who had five total shots on Sunday, while the other was credited to
Brady Charles.
Shandee Brooks tried two shots and
Christopher Hull and
Adam Griffiths each had one.
Jadiel Chance made a save.
The Blue Tigers travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to play Indianapolis on Friday (Oct. 11) in a 6:30 p.m. CDT contest.
