JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln men's soccer team played the No. 9 team in the country hard all night long, but McKendree escaped with a 1-0 win over the Blue Tigers on Friday (Oct. 4).
Lincoln (3-2-2, 2-2-1 GLVC) attempted 16 shots on the evening, including five on goal, while holding McKendree (7-0-2, 4-0-2 GLVC) to just three shot attempts all night. The Bearcats, who were ranked among the top-10 in the country in this week's United Soccer Coaches' Division II poll, managed only two shots on goal, but one on a breakaway just 1:25 into the match resulted in the contest's only goal.
Kevon Maitland had two shots on goal and three overall while
Kanye Francis and
Brady Charles had the other shots on goal for LU.
Guilherme Goncalves Capaldi,
Leon Braveboy and
Hadri Lopez each attempted two shots and
Adam Griffiths,
Eugeni Yague,
Christopher Hull, Tavis Gant, and
Jonas Mueller each recorded one shot attempt.
Vincent Osei made one save.
Lincoln will be back at home on Sunday (Oct. 6) to host Maryville at 2:30 p.m. CDT at Jefferson City High School.
