ROLLA, Mo. - The Lincoln football team scored three touchdowns in a close first half, but Missouri S&T played well in the third and fourth quarters to hand the Blue Tigers a 63-21 loss on Saturday (Oct. 26).
Isaiah Tate completed nine passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns while
Jareese Howard gained 119 yards on the ground and scored, averaging 10.8 yards per carry for the contest.
Israel Tate topped 100 receiving yards, finishing with six grabs for 105 yards.
Jordan Hoskins led Lincoln defensively with six tackles.
Missouri S&T (4-4, 3-2 GLVC) blocked LU's first punt of the day and recovered the ball in the end zone for an early 7-0 lead. Lincoln (1-7, 0-6 GLVC) responded well, however, as Howard raced 74 yards into the end zone during the next drive to tie the game at 7-7. The Miners held the Blue Tigers in check the rest of the quarter while scoring a pair of touchdowns to take a 21-7 lead.
The Miners took a three-score lead early in the second period, but Lincoln's offense started to get in rhythm, starting with a 64-yard drive capped off by
Nico Wiedmann catching a 49-yard pass from
Isaiah Tate and running into the end zone to cut the deficit in half. Later in the second quarter, Lincoln quickly marched down to the three-yard line after
Israel Tate caught passes for 35 yards and 44 yards. A touchdown catch by
Max Rodriguez on the next play made the score 28-21 at halftime.
Tobias Williams caught a 53-yard pass and
Kantrell Jordan averaged 6.0 yards per carry while also catching a pair of passes.
Dontonio Moore had two sacks and three total tackles,
Jacob McGhee finished with a sack and another tackle for loss,
Donte Moore made four takedowns and Nathan Howard and
Vez Carter each broke up passes. McGhee,
Jayvon Only,
Christian Harris and
Mike Alford each made five tackles.
The Blue Tigers will travel to Kirksville, Mo. next Saturday (Nov. 2) to play Truman State at 12:00 p.m. CT.
