SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Lincoln men's soccer team put forth a dominant defensive effort and scored in the 70th minute of the contest to beat Illinois-Springfield, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 13).
Eugeni Yague scored off a pass from
Guilherme Goncalves Capaldi with 15:54 remaining for the only goal of the contest. The Blue Tigers tried eight shots on goal and 14 shots total while allowing the Prairie Stars to try just two shots on the net.
Albert Kemeh had three shots on goal and four overall while
Shandee Brooks finished with four total shot attempts, two of which were on goal.
Adam Griffiths also had a shot on goal and
Kevon Maitland attempted a shot. In goal,
Antwone Gooden played all 90 minutes and made two saves for his first shutout of the season.
Lincoln will be back at Jefferson City High School on Friday evening (Oct. 18) to host Upper Iowa at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
