KEARNEY, Neb. - The Lincoln men's basketball team tipped off 2024 on a high note, defeating Nebraska Kearney, 90-67, on the road on Thursday night (Jan. 4).
Elijah Farr led the Blue Tigers with 20 points and dished three assists to go with five rebounds and a pair of steals.
Trey Boston added 15 points, three boards, two assists and a pair of takeaways to the winning cause, and
Franck Yetna led LU with seven rebounds while dishing three assists, scoring 14 points and registering five steals.
DJ Richardson, who scored 13 points, collected three rebounds and totaled five assists, recorded three steals for a Blue Tiger squad that created 16 turnovers on the evening.
Lincoln (9-3, 4-2 MIAA), which led for nearly the entire game, built an early 11-5 lead after knocking down three shots from three-point range during the contest's first three minutes. Nebraska Kearney (5-7, 2-5 MIAA) rallied to tie the game at 17 and later hit a triple to take a 24-21 advantage with 10 minutes until halftime. Over those 10 minutes, however, the Blue Tigers out-scored the Lopers 25-9 to take a 46-33 lead into the break.
The Lopers did not come any closer than within eight points during the second half, as Lincoln, which shot .547 overall and .409 from long range for the ballgame, connected at a .600 rate over the final 20 minutes to put the game away. LU finished with a 34-22 advantage in rebounding and scored 28 points off turnovers while receiving 31 points from its reserves.Â
Jose Roberto Tanchyn contributed nine points, five boards, an assist and a steal to the Blue Tiger effort while
Jamar Madge, Jr. provided three points and three assists.
Sam Rautins also finished with three points,
Tyvin Garrison had six points and six rebounds and
Tyson Robinson pulled down two rebounds to go with seven points.
Up next for Lincoln is a visit to Hays, Kan. to play Fort Hays State on Saturday (Jan. 6) at 4:00 p.m. CST.
