JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri Western shot .561 from the field and .450 from three-point range to defeat the Lincoln women's basketball team, 90-51, on Wednesday evening (Jan. 24).
It was a 21-14 affair in favor of the Griffons after the first quarter, with LU's final three points of the period coming on a buzzer-beating halfcourt shot by
Alyssa McCarty. McCarty ended up being the Blue Tigers' leading scorer on Wednesday, finishing with 15 points and three rebounds. In the second quarter, MWSU began to pull away by scoring 28 points on .722 shooting. The Griffons also played well defensively, limiting the Blue Tigers to .321 shooting on the night while forcing 24 turnovers.
Lincoln (6-12, 2-10 MIAA) pulled down 31 rebounds, led by
Hanne Nybo with eight.
AJ Bradley and
Imani Jones each had five rebounds, with Bradley also providing six points, five assists, four steals and a pair of blocks. Jones, meanwhile, ended the evening with five points.
Missouri Western (14-4, 9-3 MIAA) was helped offensively by 35 points from its bench, though Lincoln nearly matched that with 33 points coming from its reserves. Two of those key players were
Steph Torres, who had eight points on the night, and
Kiara Cabrera, who finished with seven points and three boards.
Emma Wolken made a three-pointer on her only shot attempt of the contest.
Ashlyn Alloway had seven points and three rebounds while
Tatiana Beaumont grabbed a rebound.
Lincoln remains in Jefferson City to host Northwest Missouri on Saturday (Jan. 27) at 1:00 p.m. CST.
