TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The Lincoln women's basketball team led early, but a strong third quarter helped Northeastern State get past the Blue Tigers, 67-54, on Saturday (Jan. 20).
Hanne Nybo led LU with 14 points, grabbed five rebounds, tallied three steals and dished two assists, but NSU shot .451 for the contest while limiting the Blue Tigers to .291 shooting overall and .280 from three-point range. LU forced NSU into 15 turnovers, resulting in 18 points for the Blue Tigers, and Lincoln also scored 13 points on 14 offensive rebounds.
Lincoln (6-11, 2-9 MIAA) hit three of its treys at the beginning of the game, including one from
Steph Torres, who also dished three assists and collected two rebounds on Saturday. Northeastern State (8-8, 4-6 MIAA) took a 13-11 lead with four minutes remaining in the opening quarter, but
Ashlyn Alloway tied the game with a pair of free throws before hitting a jumper. The RiverHawks tied the game once again, but a 7-0 run highlighted by a trey from
Alyssa McCarty and four points by
AJ Bradley gave LU a 22-15 lead through 10 minutes of play.
Northeastern State pulled to within one at halftime, but the third quarter was the difference-maker. NSU out-scored LU 20-7 in that stanza, shooting .400 from the field. In the fourth quarter, Northeastern State only attempted five field goals, but made three of those shots as well as nine free throws to seal the win.
Imani Jones had nine points, four boards and two assists for Lincoln while Alloway ended the day with eight points, six rebounds and three assists. McCarty, who pulled down five rebounds, and
Kiara Cabrera each finished with eight points.
Tatiana Beaumont collected six rebounds and
Saniya Simmons rounded out Lincoln with two boards and a steal.
Lincoln returns home to face Missouri Western on Wednesday night (Jan. 24). Tip-off in Jason Gym is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CST.
