JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team hosted Rogers State, the defending NCAA Division II champions, on Saturday (April 1), but dropped both games at Vogel Field. RSU won the opener, 12-0, and the second game, 17-0.
Lincoln (4-22, 1-9 MIAA) totaled six hits, with
Emily Williams going 2-for-2 at the plate during the second game.
Myah Dwyer also had a hit in the latter contest and made some fantastic defensive plays at shortstop, including turning a double-play and diving for a highlight reel-worthy catch across the bag at second base.
Joss Marriott started the second contest in the circle while
Emma Rakes pitched for the first time in her collegiate career during the game's final three frames.
Rogers State (25-6, 4-4 MIAA) gave up hits to
Qwynn Marquez,
Leah Wagner and
Ashton Stalling during the opener, with Stalling beginning and ending the game in the circle.
Jordan Galliher came in as a reliever, pitching 3.2 innings and surrendering just three hits. Stalling also had an assist in the first game as LU's right fielder.
Leslie Callahan recorded seven putouts between the two games while Williams recorded six in the first game and another in the second. Wagner had a combined eight putouts and Dwyer recorded four total assists.
Maris Ollison turned two assists in the second game.
Lincoln remains in Jefferson City to host Northeastern State at Vogel Field on Sunday (April 2) at 12:00 p.m. CDT.
