Stalling Homers Against Northeastern State

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Ashton Stalling scored twice, including once on a solo home run, but the Lincoln softball team dropped two games to Northeastern State at Vogel Field on Sunday (April 2). The RiverHawks won game one, 13-1, and took game two, 13-2.

After a scoreless first inning in the opener, the RiverHawks got on the scoreboard during the top of the second, taking advantage of a solo home run. The Blue Tigers shut down the NSU offense the next two frames before Stalling knotted the score at one apiece with her homer over the left field fence. The tie would not last long, however, as the RiverHawks took back the lead on a three-run shot over the right field wall, and the kept the Blue Tigers off the board the remainder of the game.

Emma Rakes and Katie Blair also had hits during Sunday's opener, and starting pitcher Jordan Galliher struck out two NSU batters while reliever Joss Marriott fanned one. Leah Wagner had a team-high nine putouts, and Leslie Callahan, Emily Williams, Rakes and Blair all had two apiece. Callahan also notched a team-high six assists.

Northeastern State (20-15, 2-8 MIAA) also struck first in the second game, bringing in three runs in the top of the first. Lincoln (4-24, 1-11 MIAA) answered with a score of its own in the bottom of the third, as Myah Dwyer was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Callahan. Another big fifth inning kept the momentum squarely with the RiverHawks, though Stalling scored her second run of the afternoon in the bottom of the fifth on a double from Madison Garcia.

Garcia, Dwyer, Williams and Stalling all had hits in game two, with Stalling also hitting a double. Marriott and Stalling both recorded strikeouts in the circle, and Wagner led the LU defense with five putouts while Williams added four. Dwyer had two assists.

Lincoln closes a six-game homestand on Tuesday (April 4) by hosting Central Missouri at Vogel Field for a 1:00 p.m. CDT double-header.
