Gorillas Outlast Blue Tigers, 86-78


JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - It was a one-point game at halftime, and there were seven lead changes as well as 10 ties. In the end, however, Pittsburg State escaped Jason Gym with an 86-78 win over the Lincoln women's basketball team on Saturday (Feb. 4).

Three Blue Tigers scored in double figures, with Niyah Jackson leading the way with 25 points, four assists, three rebounds and a steal. AJ Bradley added 16 points, four boards, a steal and a takeaway to the LU effort, and Ashlyn Alloway tallied 14 points, eight rebounds and two assists.

Lincoln (5-17, 3-12 MIAA) shot .529 from the field in the first quarter as LU held a 25-19 advantage through the first 10 minutes. Pittsburg State (18-5, 13-4 MIAA) scored 18 points in the second quarter to enter halftime with a 37-36 edge on the scoreboard. In the second half, however, Pittsburg State shot .533 from the field to pull away for the win. The Gorillas led by as many as 10 in the final period, though Lincoln would rally to pull within four with 20 seconds to play.

Kelsey Mitchell provided nine points and four rebounds, and Saniya Simmons ended the afternoon with eight points, two rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal. Aliyah Bello closed the scoring with six points, Ayrona Carter blocked a shot, and Miriam Bazylewicz contributed two rebounds, two steals, an assist and a pair of blocks.

Lincoln will travel to Hays, Kan. on Thursday (Feb. 9) to play Fort Hays State at 5:30 p.m. CST.
