KEARNEY, Neb. - The Lincoln men's basketball team held Nebraska Kearney to just two successful three-pointers in 20 attempts as the Blue Tigers won handily, 63-49, on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 11).
The Blue Tigers, who allowed UNK to shoot just .373 overall, finished with a 42-28 advantage in rebounding, with
Kevin Kone grabbing a game-high 21 boards. Kone also scored 12 points and blocked a shot, while
Sai Witt ended the day with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Jamar Madge, Jr. added 10 points, two boards and an assist to the winning cause.
Emmette Page drained a three to break a 12-12 tie, then made two shots at the line while Madge connected a three-pointer to give Lincoln (16-6, 12-6 MIAA) the momentum with 6:42 to play. Witt kept the run going with back-to-back buckets, and
Artese Stapleton made a layup on a fast break to cap off a 14-0 scoring run. Lincoln would lead by as many as 14 before entering halftime with a 32-21 advantage.
A 7-0 run during the first five minutes of the second half helped LU push its lead to 16, and Nebraska Kearney (5-19, 3-15 MIAA) would come no closer than within eight the rest of the way. Stapleton dished five assists to go with eight points, a pair of steals and two rebounds. Page also had two assists and two boards, and
DJ Richardson provided nine points, a pair of dimes, a steal and a rebound.
Franck Yetna notched three points and three rebounds, while
Sam Rautins chipped in three points and
Tyson Robinson dished an assist.
Lincoln returns to Jefferson City on Thursday (Feb. 16) to host Washburn at 7:30 p.m. CST.
