Blue Tigers Push Home Win Streak to Six With a 64-58 Victory

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Five members of the Lincoln men's basketball team scored in double figures as the Blue Tigers beat Washburn, 64-58, on Thursday night (Feb. 16).

The win gives LU a season sweep over the Ichabods, as the Blue Tigers beat WU in Topeka, Kan., 72-67, on Jan. 7. Lincoln beat Washburn for just the second time ever at home, and the first time since 1957, when the Blue Tigers earned a 93-80 victory over the Ichabods. It was also LU's sixth-straight win in Jason Gym, matching Lincoln's longest home win streak since taking six in a row in 2015-16.

Kevin Kone had a double-double, leading Lincoln (17-6, 12-6 MIAA) with 12 rebounds while chipping in 11 points and recording a steal. Sam Rautins led LU with 15 points and had two steals to go with three boards and an assist. Artese Stapleton added 10 points, a team-high three assists and two rebounds while also blocking a shot.

Washburn (12-13, 9-10 MIAA) scored the first points of the game, but Lincoln answered with nine in a row and never trailed the rest of the game. The Blue Tigers led by 11 at halftime, but the Ichabods shot .630 in the second half, eventually pulling to within four points. The Blue Tigers held a 40-31 advantage on the glass, however, and forced 15 turnovers while making 21 free throws. LU also drained seven treys while allowing the Ichabods to make just two shots from long range.

Sai Witt added 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals to the Blue Tiger cause, and blocked a shot while dishing an assist. DJ Richardson supplied 14 points to round out LU's double digit scorers, and had two boards to go with an assist and a steal. Franck Yetna closed the scoring with three points and seven rebounds, and Jamar Madge, Jr. finished with three rebounds while Emmette Page added an assist and a rebound.

Lincoln, which has already wrapped up a berth in the 2023 MIAA Basketball Championship tournament, will close out its home slate on Saturday (Feb. 18) by hosting Emporia State at 3:00 p.m. CST.
