EDMOND, Okla. - The Lincoln women's basketball team had a two-point lead with 3:43 remaining in the fourth quarter, but Central Oklahoma ended the game on a 12-3 run to hand the Blue Tigers a 71-64 loss on Saturday (Dec. 2).
Ashlyn Alloway posted a double-double to lead the Blue Tigers, as she finished the day with 16 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two assists.
AJ Bradley chipped in 11 points to go with two assists and a pair of steals.
Steph Torres and
Imani Jones each scored nine points, with Torres adding four assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block.
Torres hit a three-pointer to begin the game, but Central Oklahoma (2-6, 1-1 MIAA) ended up out-scoring the Blue Tigers, 18-12, in the opening period. With 4:42 remaining in the first half, UCO held a 31-20 lead, but a layup from Alloway sprung LU onto a 10-2 run, highlighted by a three-pointer from
Saniya Simmons. A late jumper gave the Bronchos a 35-31 advantage heading into halftime.
There were seven ties and 11 lead changes throughout the game, with Torres eventually giving Lincoln (4-3, 1-1 MIAA) a 61-59 lead on a three-pointer with 3:43 to play, but the Bronchos knotted the game with a layup and then went 7-for-8 at the free throw line down the stretch. A triple by
Tatiana Beaumont, who ended the day with five points, pulled LU to within 67-64 with 46 seconds left on the clock, but that was as close as the Blue Tigers would get in the final minute.
Both Lincoln and Central Oklahoma shot .407 from the floor, but the Bronchos made as many free throws as the Blue Tigers attempted (16). UCO forced LU into 25 turnovers, resulting in 28 of Central Oklahoma's points, and finished with a slim 36-34 edge in rebounding.
Simmons finished the afternoon with six points, an assist and a steal while Jones had four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Hanne Nybo added eight points, three boards and an assist to the Lincoln cause while
Biance Stocks provided five rebounds and an assist.
Lincoln tips off a four-game homestand next Saturday (Dec. 9) by hosting Central Missouri at 1:00 p.m. CST.
