SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Five members of the Lincoln women's basketball team scored in double figures as the Blue Tigers beat Truman State, 85-73, on Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 21). The game was played on the campus of Drury University as part of the Oasis Hotel & Convention Center Thanksgiving Classic.
Steph Torres led all scorers with 21 points and dished five assists while
Imani Jones provided 13 points, three rebounds and a pair of steals.
Biance Stocks had 11 points to go with three boards, two assists and a steal.
AJ Bradley and
Ashlyn Alloway each scored 10, with Bradley finishing with three steals and five rebounds while Alloway added six boards, two blocks, a steal and four assists.
Lincoln (3-1) broke a 13-13 tie by ending the first quarter on a 6-0 run and never looked back, eventually taking a 39-16 lead on a layup by Torres with 4:33 to play in the first half. Truman State (2-3) fought back to close the gap down to 41-31, but the Blue Tigers never let the Bulldogs get back the lead. The Blue Tigers held the Bulldogs to .386 shooting overall and .250 from beyond the arc while forcing TSU into 23 turnovers.
LU shot .468 from the field overall and .571 in the fourth quarter to hold off a late Bulldog comeback. Lincoln scored the first five points of the third quarter on a triple from
Hanne Nybo and a fast break layup by Torres, and the Blue Tigers maintained a double-digit lead all the way through the period. The closest Truman State would come to completing a comeback was on a pair of free throws that made the score 79-71 with a minute remaining, but LU made six free throws down the stretch to finish with the double digit victory.
Nybo ended the day with nine points, three rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.
Saniya Simmons had three assists and two steals to go with seven points and four boards.
Tatiana Beaumont, meanwhile, finished the afternoon with four points, four rebounds, a block and a steal.
Lincoln will remain in Springfield to play its second game of the Oasis Hotel & Convention Center Thanksgiving Classic on Wednesday (Nov. 22). The Blue Tigers will play the host school, Drury, at 5:30 p.m. CST.
