JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Sam Rautins, a 6-3 guard transferring from Daytona State who also has NCAA Division I experience, will join the Lincoln men's basketball team as a junior beginning in 2022-23.
Â
"I am really excited to have Sam joining our program," said
Jimmy Drew, head coach of the LU men's basketball team. "He has elite-level skill when shooting the ball, but also plays with extremely high IQ and understanding of the game. He has a professional approach to the classroom and the game, and he understands the day in-day out work it takes to compete for championships.:
Â
Rautins averaged 10.5 points and 3.2 rebounds at Daytona State in 2021-22, and appeared in 15 games while making five starts. Rautins previously spent two seasons playing for Canisius, a member of Division I's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, where he played in six games as a freshman and four as a sophomore before an injury curtailed that season.
Â
Before beginning his collegiate career, Rautins played at Athlete Institute Prep in Orangeville, Ontario, leading the program to a 13-3 record and a berth in the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association semifinals.
Â
Rautins comes from a proud legacy of basketball players. His father, Leo, was a first round draft pick by the Philadelphia 76ers and is currently a color commentator for the Toronto Raptors. Sam's brother, Andy, was drafted by the New York Knicks and currently plays professionally overseas.
