COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team has won nine games in a row after sweeping Stephens in a double-header on Tuesday afternoon (March 1). The Blue Tigers blanked the Stars, 11-0, in the first game, and took the second contest, 11-6.
In the opener,
Jordan Galliher threw the complete game and struck out 14 batters while allowing only three hits.
Leslie Callahan had four hits, including a triple and a three-RBI double, and
Alex Miller hit two homeruns while
Jacqueline Marquez had three RBI on a pair of hits.
Lincoln (9-4) scored twice in the first inning, with
Emma Rakes, who scored three runs on three hits, coming home on Callahan's triple. Miller homered in both the fourth and the sixth frames, and LU drove in three more scores in the top of the fifth. The Blue Tigers forced the game to end after six frames by bringing in five more runs, including three on the double by Callahan, who finished with six RBI for the contest.
Jordan Hollon scored two runs on two hits, and
Leah Wagner totaled a team-high 14 putouts while
Jacqueline Marquez had two assists.
In the second game of the afternoon, Lincoln again started strong, scoring six runs in the top of the first. That included two on a double by
Katie Blair, who had two hits for the day and scored a pair of runs.
Emily Williams had an RBI in the second inning, and doubles by Chloe Olsen and Callahan made the score 10-0 in favor of the Blue Tigers heading into the middle of the third.
Stephens (3-5) got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of a pair of Lincoln errors to load the bases before clearing them on a grand slam. Neither team scored again until the seventh, as a double by Callahan drove in Hollon. Callahan ended the day with eight total RBI. Stephens added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh, but LU forced a ground out to secure the victory.
Aidan Dayberry started game two in the circle and struck out seven batters, while
Hannah Clark closed the game for the Blue Tigers.
Qwynn Marquez and
Kori Bullard each had hits, and Blair and
Maddie Welker each provided seven putouts. Dayberry tallied three assists.
Lincoln will head to St. Louis, Mo. on Saturday (March 5) to play Health Sciences & Pharmacy in a 1:00 p.m. CST double-header.
