Blue Tigers Extend Their Winning Streak to Seven With Two Victories on Sunday

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team remained perfect at home and increased its winning streak to seven with a pair of wins in the LU HBCU Round Robin on Sunday (Feb. 27). The Blue Tigers beat Kentucky State in walk-off fashion, 6-5, before shutting out Harris Stowe, 13-0.

In the first game, Jacqueline Marquez got LU on the board in the first inning by plating Leslie Callahan on a double. Emily Williams later hit a triple to drive in Kori Bullard before scoring herself on a base hit by Alex Miller. That made the score 3-0, but Kentucky State (2-8) cut into the lead in the third inning by scoring an unearned run on an RBI double.

Lincoln (7-4) increased its lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run homer by Miller. That score stood until the top of the seventh, when KSU went on a two-out rally, hitting a pair of two-RBI hits to tie the game.

Bullard led off the seventh inning with a base hit down the right field line, then took second on a fielding error. Qwynn Marquez entered as a pinch runner, and ended up scoring the winning run on another error by the Thorobreds.

Williams, Bullard and Miller each had two hits while Jordan Hollon, Chloe Olsen, Leah Wagner, Ashton Stalling and Emma Rakes each had one apiece. The Blue Tigers out-hit the Thorobreds, 12-7, with Aidan Dayberry, who earned the win, striking out four KSU batters. Hollon turned three assists and Callahan had two. Olsen had a team-high eight putouts.

In the second game of the evening, Hannah Clark struck out 13 Harris Stowe (0-7) batters and did not allow a single hit. Lincoln, meanwhile, had 10 hits, and scored nine runs in the bottom of the first to take a commanding lead. The Blue Tigers added four more scores in the bottom of the third including two on a base hit by Olsen.

Olsen had three RBI and tied Katie Blair and Qwynn Marquez with two hits. Callahan, Stalling, Hollon and Jalia Callaway also had hits, and Callahan, Bullard, Alivia Rymer and Maddie Welker each scored runs. Blair was responsible for 13 putouts, and Alivia Rymer had an assist.
