COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team threw a combined no-hitter to beat Kentucky State, 13-0, before shutting out Harris Stowe, 9-0, in the LU HBCU Round Robin on Saturday night (Feb. 26).
In the first game of the evening, the Blue Tigers used 12 hits to score 13 runs, including six in the first inning.
Jacqueline Marquez and
Kori Bullard each had RBI base hits, and both scored on a single by Chloe Olsen later in the frame.
Alex Miller and Olsen were later plated on passed balls for the early 6-0 advantage.
Kentucky State got its first base runner of the day on a walk during the top of the second, but a fielder's choice and a pair of strikeouts kept the Thorobreds off the board.
Emily Williams hit Lincoln's first home run of the season in the bottom of the second, and the Blue Tigers kept the momentum going in the third with six more runs on five hits.
Jordan Galliher earned her second win of the season, throwing the first three innings of the five-run contest and striking out four KSU batters.
Ashton Stalling closed the game and registered two more strikeouts. Neither pitcher gave up a hit, and the duo allowed only three walks in the victory.
Williams scored three runs in the win and matched
Leslie Callahan and
Jacqueline Marquez with two hits apiece.
Jordan Hollon hit a three-RBI triple,
Qwynn Marquez scored a run to go with an RBI, and
Leah Wagner and
Makenna Branch also had hits.
Emma Rakes and
Jalia Callaway also scored runs in the victory.
In the second game of the evening, Lincoln scored all nine of its runs in the first inning, and allowed just one base runner the entire contest.
Aidan Dayberry threw the complete game and rang up nine strikeouts to get her second victory of the year. Nine different Blue Tigers accounted for those runs, including
Alivia Rymer and
Katie Blair.
Lincoln improved to 5-4 overall and 5-0 at home with the shutout wins.
The Blue Tigers will play a rematch with Kentucky State on Sunday (Feb. 27) at 2:00 p.m. CST and will take Harris Stowe later that day at 6:00 p.m. CST.
