TOPEKA, Kan. - Four members of the Lincoln men's basketball team, led by
Mekhi Kimble and Charles Wilson, scored in double figures as LU fell to Washburn, 87-72, on Tuesday night (Feb. 9).
Kimble and Wilson each scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds, with Wilson additionally tallying two steals.
Jordan Notch had five boards and a block to go with 12 points, and
Derrick Woods ended the evening with 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Washburn (13-3, 13-3 MIAA), which entered the game ranked No. 16 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches' Division II poll, shot .556 overall and .481 from beyond the arc, and led for nearly the entire night. The Ichabods shot .533 in the first half en route to a 42-31 lead over Lincoln, which fell to 8-8 both overall and in MIAA play.
Both Lincoln and Washburn collected 34 rebounds, and LU had a slight edge in the turnover battle, committing 11 while forcing 12. The Blue Tigers shot .889 at the free throw line, but .431 for the game, including .364 from three-point range, though Lincoln did connect on eight treys.
One of those three-pointers was made by
Yaniel Vidal in the second half with Lincoln trailing 48-35. That shot sparked the Blue Tigers onto a brief comeback, as Vidal was fouled on the make and converted the rare four-point play. Notch then hit a jumper, and Wilson scored on a fast break to pull the Blue Tigers to within five. A triple from Kimble later completed the 12-0 run for Lincoln, which had cut the deficit to 48-47 with 15:07 remaining.
Unfortunately for the Blue Tigers, Washburn answered with a 10-0 run to increase its lead back into double digits. A jumper from Notch briefly made it a nine-point affair, but that ended up being as close as LU would get to catching the Ichabods.
Vidal had nine points and three assists on the night while
Cameron Potts scored six to go with five boards and three assists.
Quinton Drayton supplied four points and four rebounds, and
Lamont Ballard, Jr. dished two assists while
Arash Yaqubi closed the scoring with three points, two boards and an assist.
Lincoln will close out a five-game road trip on Thursday night (Feb. 11) when the Blue Tigers travel to Wichita, Kan. to play Newman at 6:00 p.m. CST.
