JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -
Aliyah Bello hit a jumper off an in-bounds pass with 2.6 seconds remaining to give the Lincoln women's basketball team a 60-58 victory over Newman in its final home game of the 2020-21 season on Thursday (Feb. 25).
Bello was one of three Blue Tigers to score in double figures, as she ended her night with 13 points, two rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal.
Ashtin Ingram had a double-double, matching Bello with 13 points while grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds.
Vivian Chigbu led LU with 17 points and had eight boards and a steal.
Lincoln (2-19, 2-19 MIAA) jumped out to a 19-10 lead after the first quarter, and out-rebounded the Jets, 37-32, while forcing 15 turnovers. Lincoln scored 16 points off turnovers and 14 off of offensive rebounds, as LU attacked the glass for 11 offensive boards compared to just five for Newman (4-17, 4-17 MIAA). Lincoln also had a good night at the line, shooting .722, with Chigbu hitting seven of her eight free throw attempts.
Newman rallied to take a 33-30 lead at halftime, but Lincoln shot .438 from the field in the third quarter, including .400 from three-point range. LU led for nearly the entire second half, with the lone exception being when Newman tied the game with a late three-pointer. Lincoln called a timeout,
Niyah Jackson found Bello in front of the basket for the game-winner, and the Blue Tigers prevented the Jets from converting on a last-second shot.
Jackson had four assists on the evening and finished with eight points and five rebounds.
AJ Bradley provided six points, four rebounds and two steals to the winning effort, and
Haylie Holloway added five points and two assists.
Simone Jordan had a rebound and a steal, and
Kiara Cadore supplied an assist and a rebound.
Lincoln will close its 2020-21 campaign on Saturday (Feb. 27) with a trip to Warrensburg, Mo. to play Central Missouri at 1:00 p.m. CST.
