JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln men's basketball team heads to Kearney, Neb. on Saturday (Feb. 20) seeking a season sweep of Nebraska Kearney when the Blue Tigers tip off against the Lopers at 4:00 p.m. CST.
Lincoln (10-9, 10-9 MIAA) hosted Nebraska Kearney (8-11, 8-11 MIAA) back on Jan. 7, with the Blue Tigers winning, 67-60. Lincoln is seeking its second sweep of the season, as LU won games against Emporia State both on the road (Dec. 17) and at home (Feb. 13).
LU enters the weekend with a scoring margin of +1.1 that ranks sixth in the MIAA, and Lincoln is sixth in the conference in scoring offense (76.4) and sixth in scoring defense (75.4). The Blue Tigers rebound well, ranking third in the MIAA and eighth in NCAA Division II in total boards (664) as well as fourth in the league with 35.0 rebounds per night. Approximately 10 of those rebounds per game are on the offensive side of the ball, rating LU fourth in the MIAA in that statistic.
The Blue Tigers are also fifth nationally in total steals (155), with
Cameron Potts, one of just three NCAA Division II players with a triple-double in 2020-21, ranking eighth in the country with 39 takeaways. Potts is currently second in the conference in assists per game (5.3) and third in Division II with 100 total dishes. Potts is also averaging 11.0 points and 5.6 boards.
Sai Witt, a three-time player of the week honoree this year, averages a team-high 8.6 rebounds, the sixth-most by an MIAA player in 2020-21. Witt, who also averages 16.4 points, is leading the MIAA, and is ranked 27th nationally, with 3.3 offensive rebounds per contest. LU's leading scorer is
Quinton Drayton, who averages 16.9 points and 4.7 rebounds, while
Derrick Woods, with 11.8 points per game, is also averaging double digits.
Yaniel Vidal is 15th in Division II with 34 steals, and has made 44 treys (22nd-most in DII) while shooting .407 from three-point land. Vidal additionally averages 9.1 points, while Charles Wilson is averaging 7.4.
Nebraska Kearney is led offensively by Jake Walker (14.6 points per game), Austin Luger (14.3 ppg.) and Darrian Nebeker (13.0 ppg.). The Lopers are averaging 68.5 points and allowing 71.2 points per contest, and both collects and allows approximately 33 rebounds per night. The top rebounders are Nebeker (6.5) and Luger (5.7), and Walker leads UNK with 2.6 assists per night.
