Rally Comes Up Short as Blue Tigers Fall to UMSL

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Lincoln men's basketball team scored 48 points in the second half, but could not complete a rally as LU fell to Missouri-St. Louis on Tuesday evening (Nov. 23). The game was played at Maryville University as part of the Maryville Thanksgiving Classic.

Lincoln (0-3) trailed by 15 at halftime and by as many as 18 with 11:16 remaining, but Mark Boland hit a trey while being fouled to spark a Blue Tiger rally. Boland made the ensuing free throw, and made another three-pointer on Lincoln's next possession, and then grabbed a rebound on defense to set up a Chuck Wilson jumper. Boland finished the night with a team-high 12 points and collected four rebounds to go with a block and a steal. Wilson, meanwhile, tallied nine points and four boards.

Later in the half, Derrick Woods made a bucket from downtown, and Destan Williams hit a layup off a fastbreak to pull the Blue Tigers within single digits, 66-58. Missouri-St. Louis (4-1) managed to build the lead back into double figures, but Lincoln made one last run in the final minutes of the contest. Wilson connected on a jumper, and Mekhi Kimble made a basket to pull LU back within eight. The teams then traded baskets, with John Gaines making the final shot of the contest.

Woods ended the night with 11 points and three rebounds, and Williams dished nine assists while scoring nine points, securing five rebounds and recording two steals. Josh Wallace also scored nine, Gaines grabbed three rebounds and Ni'Sean Rigmaiden provided eight points, three assists, a pair of steals and two rebounds. Kimble finished the day with eight points and Alafia Oluwasogo rounded ou the scoring with four points and a steal.

Lincoln remains in St. Louis on Wednesday (Nov. 24) to play Maryville at 1:00 p.m. CST.
