Blue Tigers Record 23 Steals in a 97-20 Victory


JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team scored 57 points off 36 Blackburn turnovers as the Blue Tigers defeated the Beavers, 97-20, inside Jason Gym on Tuesday evening (Nov. 16).

The Blue Tigers recorded 23 steals, including eight by AJ Bradley, who filled the stat sheet with six points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Deija Jackson, who tallied seven points and seven boards, finished with three steals and a pair of blocks, while Hya Haywood poured in 16 points and notched four takeaways.

Lincoln (2-1) turned in a dominating defensive performance, allowing Blackburn (0-5) to make just seven field goals on the evening, including only three during the game's final 20 minutes. Lincoln did not allow a three-pointer, with the Beavers shooting 0-for-17 from long range, and the Blue Tigers held Blackburn to just .184 shooting for the contest. LU gave up only four points in each of the first and second quarters, and six points in each of the third and fourth periods.

Kelsey Mitchell matched Haywood with 16 points and collected five rebounds, while Imani Jones and Kylie Bernskoetter each scored nine. Jones pulled down five rebounds while Bernskoetter had two steals and two boards. Niyah Jackson dished five assists and matched Ayreona Carter with eight points while Ashtin Ingram tallied six points, four boards, a block, a steal and an assist. Mercy Gonzalez added four points and two rebounds to the winning cause.

Le'Yanna McGinnis and Bailey Lewis provided four points apiece, with McGinnis also securing three rebounds and notching a steal. Haylie Holloway grabbed five rebounds and dished four assists to round out the Blue Tigers' performance on Tuesday.

Lincoln will play on the road for the first time in 2021-22 on Thursday (Nov. 18), as the Blue Tigers travel to Springfield, Ill. to play Illinois-Springfield at 5:30 p.m. CST.
