SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Cold shooting hurt the Lincoln women's basketball team on Thursday night (Nov. 18) as the Blue Tigers lost to Illinois-Springfield, 82-48, in their first road game of 2021-22.
Lincoln (2-2) forced 14 turnovers, recording eight steals, but shot just .328 from the field. Illinois-Springfield (4-0), meanwhile, fired at a .476 clip from the floor and shot .450 from three-point range. UIS also won the rebounding battle, 45-28.
Kelsey Mitchell led the Blue Tigers with 16 points, as she shot .500 from the field and made four treys.
Le'Yanna McGinnis added 11 points and a team-high five rebounds, and
Niyah Jackson provided seven points, four boards and three assists.
Ashtin Ingram chipped in two points and blocked two shots, and
Mercy Gonzalez ended the night with three steals, three assists, two blocks and a pair of rebounds.
Hya Haywood scored four points and
Imani Jones added three to go with two steals and three rebounds.
AJ Bradley contributed three points and four rebounds,
Kylie Bernskoetter had two boards and two points, and
Haylie Holloway provided a steal and a rebound.
Ayreona Carter also represented LU with a rebound.
Lincoln remains on the road on Saturday (Nov. 20) to play William Jewell in Liberty, Mo. at 1:00 p.m. CST.
