Blue Tigers Fall to RiverHawks in Double OT

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Niyah Jackson hit a buzzer-beating jumper to tie the game at the end of regulation, but Northeastern State escaped with an 89-79 victory in double overtime against the Lincoln women's basketball team on Saturday (Jan. 23).

AJ Bradley led the Blue Tigers with 20 points and had six rebounds to go with a pair of steals. Ashtin Ingram blocked four shots and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds while scoring three points. Vivian Chigbu had 12 boards and seven points, while Jackson ended the day with 15 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals.

The lead changed 13 times, and the score was tied on 12 occasions as the teams battled throughout the day. Entering the final minute, the score was knotted up at 60, but with just over 14 seconds remaining the RiverHawks hit a layup to briefly take the lead. After a missed layup on LU's end of the court, Jackson made a basket from the top of the key to send the game into overtime.

Bradley made the first bucket of OT, but neither team would lead by more than two over the course of the next five minutes. A pair of free throws from Bradley led to a 70-68 Blue Tiger advantage with 1:16 to play, but a pair of shots at the line on the other end of the court tied the score back up heading into the final minute. Neither team would score again until the second overtime, however, when Northeastern State (4-8, 4-8 MIAA) hit a jumper just over a minute into the period.

Chigbu tied the game up with a layup, and then got a steal which was converted into another bucket by Bradley. The RiverHawks answered with a three-pointer to take a 75-74 lead, and that ended up springing NSU to a 10-0 run that gave Northeastern State control of the game for good. Lincoln (0-12, 0-12 MIAA) finished the game shooting .384 on the day and .710 from the line.

Aliyah Bello also had a big day for LU, scoring 14 points and pulling down five rebounds, while Haylie Holloway provided seven points, five boards, an assist and a steal. Virja Lewis chipped in six points, and Simone Jordan scored five while Kiara Cadore hit a jumper for LU's other two points of the contest.

Lincoln will be back in Jason Gym next Thursday (Jan. 28) to take on Northwest Missouri at 5:30 p.m. CST.
