WICHITA, Kan. - It was a four-point game through three quarters, but Newman scored 30 over the final 10 minutes to hand the Lincoln women's basketball team an 81-59 defeat on Thursday night (Jan. 14).
Ashtin Ingram hit a trey in the final seconds of the third period to cut the LU deficit down to 51-47 in a back-and-forth game that featured 14 lead changes and four ties. Lincoln (0-8, 0-8 MIAA) kept Newman (3-6, 3-6 MIAA) from taking a lead larger than seven points for most of the night, but the Jets opened the final quarter with a 10-1 run, and limited the Blue Tigers to just five points during the first five minutes of the period. Newman shot a blistering .615 from the field in the fourth quarter and held the Blue Tigers to just .300.
Lincoln forced Newman into 14 turnovers, resulting in 13 points for the Blue Tigers, and shot .442 for the contest, including .429 beyond the arc.
Niyah Jackson led LU offensively with 15 points and tallied four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Haylie Holloway had an impressive all-around performance, finishing with 12 points, eight boards and seven assists.
Ingram supplied nine points and five boards, and
Aliyah Bello recorded seven points, three boards and a steal.
Simone Jordan also had three rebounds to go with six points and a block, and
AJ Bradley rounded out Lincoln's starters with four points and a pair of assists.
Vivian Chigbu led Lincoln with two steals and had four points and four boards, and
Kiara Cadore closed the scoring with two points.Â
Lincoln will next travel to Edmond, Okla. to play Central Oklahoma on Saturday (Jan. 16) at 1:30 p.m. CST.
